- Non bussare alla porta del diavolo by Sospetto
7/10 Clinton Staff review, 06 December 2013
Ok I think I’ve worked it out. Sospetto appear to be an Italian duo making music that is indebted to their horror music forefathers but are actually new compositions. And they have made a DVD to go with it. So basically, if you haven’t heard enough horror film soundtracks this year here are two more for you (there is also the other release ‘Segni Misteriosi, Con II Sangue Dipinto Sul Muro - try saying that with a mouthful of pasta). Anyway it does what you might imagine, veering from intriguing synthy ambience to breathless prog-like instrumentals.
Here and there there’s a few things that sounds a bit more akin to the ‘Drive’ soundtrack with lush widescreen synth. ‘Sulla Strada Verso Il Nulla’ and ‘Viena Da Me’ both sound like 60’s easy listening given a horror synth make-over. Its a nice package (as i’ve been told many times) with an accompanying CD and DVD in digipac case to go with the vinyl. The now obligatory harpsichord warning is firmly in place and as Lil Biz has already outlined this week there is a case to be put forward about how much of this kind of stuff is overkill. But taken on its own terms its a lovingly prepared tribute to the music the band so obviously love.
