8/10 ReviewBot300 Staff review, 17 October 2013
Here’s an EP of bubbly electronica from Richard Bone, apparently his first vinyl release in 35 years (although he’s made a mind-boggling 25 CDs since then). This 12" contains four tracks of beautifully balanced cerebral beats and silky head-nodding melodies from synthesisers and guitars.
The general feel is one of chill-out melodies with a cheeky touch of library funk and languid but danceable beats, with the opening title track impressing me most with its clockwork rhythms and stabs of toytown synth brass. It’s like Fourtet got asked to score a ‘70s cop show, in some ways clearly a modern piece but playfully referential to synth scores of the ‘70s and ‘80s. The pace is slowed after this with the forthright synth melodies giving a bit of a fantasy feel sometimes, but everything is well balanced and closer ‘Moon Man Mortimer’ particularly impresses. A solid effort, and with only 100 copies pressed it won’t be available for long!
