8/10 Mike Staff review, 23 October 2013
The Goatse-esque cover illustration to this new Audacity album has kind of put me off my lunch, but no matter! I’m a professional and will review through the retches, because this lot actually aren’t too bad. They’re peddling a very ‘90s-ish indie rock sound as seems to be the trend nowadays, that kind of polished post-grunge slacker power-pop that was all over the place in the late ‘90s.
Li’l Biz just made the excellent observation that they sound quite a bit like the much missed Exploding Hearts, with shades of Jay Reatard. She’s right on both counts, too, saving me the trouble of thinking of a suitable late ‘90s/early '00s power-pop name to hang my comparisons on. This is pretty solid and entertaining stuff, it’s really taking me back to a simpler time in my life when I mostly just had to worry about getting my homework done on time and not playing my records too loud while my parents’ band were practicing. Weezer and Archers of Loaf spring to mind too. It’s pretty decent stuff, this.
