- Boys Again by Ballet School

Berlin-based three piece Ballet School have released this great little four track EP on Simon Raymonde and Robin Guthrie’s (Cocteau Twins) Bella Union. They make perfect pop with an eighties vibe and just a gentle sprinkle of shoegaze. Opener 'Ghost' wouldn't sound out of place in a John Hughes film, with pretty chiming guitars and singer Rosie Blair’s soulful vocals it’s not a million miles away from the more poppier mid period Cocteaus.
Louis McGuire’s drum sound has an almost synthetic quality and guitarist Michel Collet backs this up with that chiming eighties sound that bands like The Cure and Echo And The Bunnymen used to their advantage. 'Crush' sounds a lot like a more soulful Altered Images with Rosie sounding very Clare Grogan-esque (not a bad thing in my mind!) and closer ‘Yaoi’ is a more darker new wave disco track. The only bad thing about this EP is it’s too damn short. I’m instantly left wanting more!
