8/10 gbar Customer review, 14th November 2017

After a couple of rather disappointing albums, Monster Magnet are back with full force on 'Last Patrol'. Following the departure of long-time member Ed Mundell, people weren't expecting the band to relive their past glories, but fortunately they've managed to bounce back and create a record that harkens back to their classics 'Dopes To Infinity' and 'Powertrip'. The opening track "I Live Behind The Clouds" is filled with such high quality, layering and depth, it kinda reminds me of Queens of the Stone Age, while Dave Wyndorf channels his inner Neil Fallon (of Clutch) on "Hallelujah". It isn't all-out freakouts though - "Stay Tuned" and the closer "One Dead Moon" are both spaced out acoustic guitar ballads. 'Last Patrol' sees the band channelling their inner Hawkwind rather than their usual mountain-of-pills stoner rock, and it's a great return to form for a beloved band of the stoner genre.
