7/10 Ian Staff review, 11 October 2013
Beautiful double LP gatefold sleeve from Belgian electronic artist Red Stars Over Tokyo, with his usual brand of trancey hypnotic IDM, ‘Melody Attack’ is almost vintage sounding in its bleeps and bloops but still retains a futuristic element to the world of ambient dance music, its influences range from Pete Namlook’s sci-fi trance to '70s synth meister Jean Michel Jarre.
The electronic sounds drift in and out of consciousness with rhythms created by mere handclaps and pulses, simplicity is the key here, no thumping bass or driving techno rhythms to get in the way, just pure hypnotic ambience flowing through space and time without a care in the world, post club music for the acid generation. If you’re the kind of person that likes to take your brain far into the cosmos then ‘Melody Attack’ is just the ticket.
