8/10 Andrew Customer review, 6th August 2014
Whilst I don't think this is the strongest reissue Now Again have put out, that is a bit like complaining that your gold ingot isn't quite as shiny as the others. There are some quality tunes on here, Free and Easy and Gotta Stand For Something would stand up against the likes of Sly and the Family Stone in their blend of soulful funk rock. Curse Upon the World reveals a slighyly tougher edge to their music, perhaps reflecting the time they were recording. There are lighter shades to, with more mellow numbers balancing the album. As ever with Now Again there is also a booklet with extensive writing on the band with accompanying photos that tell the story of the band as well as the early 70's era they were recording in.
If I wanted to be extremely critical, you could say that this could have been editted down to a single disc of 8 tracks as thehe are a couple of superfluous cuts, however this remains a lovely re-issue of funk & soul from the New Orleans outfit. Clear nods to some of the funk heavyweights of the era, but with a distinct sound of their own. Drums for loop diggers to dream of, but mainly sweet funky music to get down to. A timely reminder that there is so much out there to discover.
