What is he up to? The Alasdair Roberts side is rather odd. With pal Ivor Kallin they re-tell ‘The Legend of Saint Columba’s Oxter Packet’; an apocryphal tale in which Saint Columba instructs a shepherd boy, cowering in fear of a storm one dark night, to place the plant under his oxter (the Scots word for ‘armpit’) to relieve his fear. It’s a spoken word piece with Alasdair doing the voices and various incidental sounds. A novelty, listen to once and discard.
On the B side is Jesus Christ (AKA Sebadoh’s Eric Gaffney. NOTE: not actually Jesus Christ) with a sludgy grungy number that is one part Ween, one part Zappa and okay yes a bit of Sebadoh. The second song is another spoken word piece similar to the Alasdair Roberts thing. What is up with these people? Why are they doing this? Again, guaranteed to never be listened to again. Comes on St John’s Wort colour vinyl (yellow, presumably the colour of the flowers not the gruesome brown tablets).
