8/10 Phil Staff review, 04 October 2013
I remember when the last Glasser album came out folks were going crazy mad for it. I can’t remember a thing about the last one but that’s mainly because I have no memory and these days I can’t even remember what I had for tea last night. Don’t even get me started on ages. I have to ask people how old I am sometimes. I am genuinely that special.
Apparently when Brian was reviewing her last album I wasn’t allowed to mention Bats For Lashes as presumably Glasser sounds a bit like her. Now that I’m listening to her new pop opus ‘Interiors’, Bjork springs to mind more than anyone else. Sweet pop tunes with very similar vocals to Bjork (though she doesn’t sound like her, the melodies and style are quite similar and her voice is less divisive). Electronic rhythms bustle around sparkly pop tunes amidst some unique sounding arrangements.
Van Rivers twiddles knobs at the desk and between him and Cameron (Glasser) they create some really refreshing, out-there electronic pop music. It really does remind me an awful lot of Bjork but without the ‘annoying’ warbling. Interestingly some of the sounds are used for unlikely purposes as vocals are used as percussion and melodies are created from field recordings. This is experimental pop at its best and I’d strongly recommend checking it out!
