7/10 Clinton Staff review, 13 September 2013
This is the debut EP from one third of avant drone metal outfit Locrian. But this is quite removed from the noise created by the makers of ‘Return to Annhilation’. Comprising of a kind of low end hum sitting beneath some squeaky synths, I’m finding the opening track quite pleasant.
The synths pick out a quite arresting melody and it's a remarkably soothing piece. Suprisingly perky as well, its deep atmospheres take the listener off into a grainy black and white world of torn down buildings, industrial decay and pipes rusting back in '81.
The B side begins with an orchestra of cymbals before being joined by a grainy drone which undulates as the track progresses. What it lacks of the (relative) melody of the A side it makes up in an intense organic form of drone, and it's hard not to get completely lost in its fog shrouded world.
