Right now I’m struggling to get my head around this latest Amen Dunes LP. It’s a weird collage of unsettling analogue loops, minimal piano and guitar dark ambience, and general spacious and uneasy sound art business. Sometimes he’s drawling poetry across the detritus-strewn soundscapes but mostly he’s just letting the noises do the talking. It’s weird, disjointed analogue concrete which will alienate your friends. Maybe think early Dirty Beaches but much sparser. The second side seems to have more going on than the first, with all the songs here having vocals as far as I can tell, but we’re still talking super-sparse and slow moving lo-fi psychedelia.
