This Live at Third Man series seems to quickly be becoming the jewel in the label’s crown, knocking out functional live discs from the likes of The Peoples Temple and Black Lips and with a Melvins one on the horizon, and this one here has an energetic set from glam-garage enigma King Tuff.
As anyone who caught his album on Sub Pop and subsequent live appearances will be able to attest, King Tuff’s stock in trade is a mixture of T-Rex-esque ‘70s glam rock and adrenaline-fuelled Ty Segall style garage pop, tight and functional and irresistibly hook-laden and raucous. Early Supergrass keeps springing to mind but this is more aggressive with lots of hi-gain guitar heroics and wild pounding drums. Old-fashioned entertainment. Very enjoyable.
