One of our team here at Norman says that they actually played on the same bill as this guy at his first ever gig while they were on tour in Europe and that he was good and they’re glad he’s got his act together and put an album out. Listening to it now, I’m glad too. This album is a fascinating blend of queasy tropical ambience, shivering celestial synth drones and sun-kissed surf guitar over blurred shimmers of melody. In the distance a drum machine and synth pulse in unison like waves lapping at a discarded flip-flop.
The new-agey post-dub bliss out style kind of falls somewhere between the pure drift of people like Bvdub and the physicality of Sun Araw or Mark McGuire, as well as dipping into a kind of narrative dreampop drift like in ‘Inner Beach’ which mixes that indistinct ghostliness of Broadcast or Ela Orleans with a kind of tropical narrative feel which brings to mind Heroin In Tahiti. Excellent record!
