Sweden’s Sad Day For Puppets used to play a kind of shoegazey indie pop style, but it would seem they have shed the gaze this time around for more of a pure pop effort with shades of The xx and Niki & The Dove.
Apparently singer Anna Eklund and guitarist Martin Kallholm are the only current members still remaining from their original incarnation which I suppose explains the aesthetic U-turn, and to be fair these songs are pretty nice, with stadium guitars and soaring keyboards, it’ll definitely go down well on big stages. When they do the rock bits it reminds me of Belly. If you’re into that European synthy indiepop sound like the Cardigans, etc, you’ll probably like this. A bit cheesy in places but mostly perfectly enjoyable.
