I had a Pikelet album ages ago but I don’t remember it sounding like this. Then again I can’t remember what day it is, or which way round to put my trousers on. Anyway this is their third album. I had a Pikelet album ages ago but I don’t remember it sounding like this. Then again I can’t remember what day it is, or which way round to put my trousers on.

Anyway this is their third album. They met when working as backing musicians for Ariel Pink (good luck with that) and one of them is called Shags. They produce a kind of experimental but listenable synth pop that reminds me a little of Ladytron, a little of Erase Errata (or for those unfamilar with the latter substitute The Slits, virtually the same things).

Therefore, to sum up, it's squelchy electro-pop fun with a post punk edge. They are quite happy to launch into catchy choruses too as ‘Projections’ demonstrates.

They got nominated for the Australian music prize with their last one, and even if that had contained INXS, Men at Work and Angry Anderson amongst its nominees it could not be more of an embarrassment than this year's Mercury shortlist.
