8/10 Alice Customer review, 24th April 2016
Contrary to the comment above, I think the self-titled album from the 1975 is a masterpiece. Featuring the chart hits 'Girls' and 'Chocolate' you may think the sound of the 1975 is solely the pop chart mainstream, but the band bring more than that; Thought-provoking lyrics appear to you the more you listen, prompting questions of society and personal state. Beneath the skin of these tracks, we see the band's more emotional side, such as the songs 'Robbers' and 'Menswear'. What I like even more are the instrumentals; Matt Healy isn't the only band member who knows how to bring it.
Menswear, in particular, shows off the less prominent features of the music, with over a minute of instrumental only. Beautiful live.
1/10 Alex Customer review, 23rd October 2014
I cannot see how this band have managed to sell out shows at massive venues such as Alexandra Palace. The vocals are so whiny it hurts; they bring absolutely nothing to the table. The instrumentation is awful. There is no raw and real emotion in any of the instruments, the guitars are low in the mix as is the fashion in pop music these days. WARNING - Listening to this album might make you want to pull your hair out.
