The latest emission on Dominick Fernow's Bed Of Nail label comes from the mysterious Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement following a fine release for Blackest Ever Black and numerous cassettes for Hospital Productions. On the beefy topside we have 'These Spirits Are Thought To Live Far Out At Sea And Are Usually Malevolent' which is all submerged underwater dubbed out techno sorta buried in the distance while the sound of water trickles and bubbles away. It's a pretty laid back/ lazy tempo making me think of Maurizio being mashed up with some sub-par Chris Watson Hydrophone field recordings. As you'd expect it's all pretty dark and gloomy. It's techno Jim, but not as we know it.

On the underside 'They Shoot Men With Flying Fish And Travel In Waterspouts Or On Rainbows' has a throbbing bass pulse as its heartbeat while slowly things become increasingly creepy with digital bird calls, dripping, static etc. then the bottom end on the bass increases and that's pretty much it. Sorta like new age dark ambient bass or something. I love the output from this label and indeed previous Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement releases but to be honest this didn’t really do a lot for me.
