7/10 Clinton Staff review, 27 September 2013

Like Dawes, Eagulls are one of those bands whose name doesn’t work spoken out loud. It just confuses people. So anyway, if you are speaking this not reading with your eyes then this is not the ‘Hotel California’ guys. Instead their sound is more Travellodge Luton. It's an impressively bleak monochrome post-punk sound with lots of angular John McGeoch style guitars sounding somewhere between Magazine and Siouxsie and the Banshees. It's well ‘81 riots.

Fittingly, the B side is a cover of Killing Joke’s ‘Requiem’ and the vocals are shouted, oh what a large voice you have young man, it's like a foghorn yet it fits in perfectly with all the angry young man post-punk angst on show. The back cover depicts a terrifying concrete tower block and if we could do picture reviews I’d just show that as its pretty much exactly what they sound like.
