The prolific Neil “Astral Social Club” Campbell is back this week with a new 7”, accompanied by a CD containing extended versions of the tracks on the single and a couple of extra tracks as well, so basically an album’s worth of material, so the £10 pricetag isn’t actually as extravagant as it looks. You probably know the score with this guy by now; glistening, pulsating electronic soundscapes with shiny drones and an undercurrent of bubbly alien weirdness.

That’s just what you get with the opening couple of tracks (the first of which is on the 7”), and then on ‘Kuff (Singular)’ there’s a piercingly high-pitched pulse unsettling a pretty little melody in a way that gets fairly uncomfortable before the song’s four minutes have passed. Finally there’s ‘Moonage Daydream (Full)’ (the other song on the 7”) which in fact is not a rework of Bowie’s Ziggy-era pomp but actually a feverish post-dubby pulseathon with a kind of Sun Araw-meets-Black Dice feel. It goes on for ages on the CD version, eventually settling into a quavering, hazy analogue hum. It’s totally spacing me out. Very good.
