This debut full length by Portland OR’s Port St. Willow aka Nicholas Principe has had the legendary Brian Eno singing its praises - now there’s a stamp of approval if ever I heard one - but you can totally see why this record would appeal to Mr Eno. To hear a guitar based band produce such glorious ambience is pretty amazing really.

‘Holiday’ has a cathedral-esque quality last heard by the likes of Bark Psychosis but with the vocal soul of Wild Beasts or The Blue Nile. Echoes of guitar and brushed drums lightly skip behind a soulful falsetto voice, often accompanied by waves of organ and distant trumpet (‘On Your Side’) but then stripped down to a bare guitar and vocal (‘Corners’). ‘Holiday’ has a very personal quality to its stark beauty and really sucks you into the heart of its music...it seems Mr Eno was spot on with this, trust him, he’s a professional!
