Ooh, this is lovely, it’s quite soundtracky piano-led stuff from someone I’ve never heard of, Angele David-Guillou, and it’s making me think of Yann Tiersen and Ralfe Band’s scores to ‘Amelie’ and ‘Bunny & The Bull’ respectively. Also Michael Nyman keeps springing to mind (whose name I forgot, so I had to ask Phil “Who’s that massive pianist? You know the British one?”) and Danny Elfman’s more piano-based soundtrack work...also in places it reminds me of the theme music from ‘Psychoville’.
Basically this is super tasteful stuff, gently paced and soothing, delivered with an even-handed calmness which lends the heartstring-tugging melodies a stoical stiff-upper-lip poignancy. Lots of the tracks here kind of have a timeless, haunted feel, with plenty of waltz-time weepiness for those of a soundtracky inclination. Very nice stuff, gentle and tasteful and wistful.
