- Chromanatron by Nurse With Wound
8/10 Ian Staff review, 31 October 2013
NWW are back with this strange little oddity of an album, ‘Chromanatron’ is a tribute to the legendary German cosmic rock band Sand. As with most NWW projects, any of the original sounds from its influence are mostly gone, what is left is a collage of heavy industrial sounds, dark ambient noises and their trademark cut and paste sampling. Split into two parts, Andrew Liles and Steven Stapleton have taken the work of Sand and blitzed it in a blender until completely unrecognisable, but that’s what NWW do so well.
There does seem to be occasional hints of Sand’s psychedelic sound with moments of near normality (a rare thing in NWW land), about 15 minutes into part A features a lovely bass, guitar and french horn combo which leads into a great psych-rock jam. Part B sees them back on familiar ground with a good 15 minutes of almost silent drone followed by a painful crashing noise that scares me half to death, that’s the great thing about Nurse With Wound, you certainly never get the same album twice.
