8/10 Mikey Gordon Customer review, 4th March 2014
I have to say Burning Tree were not a band I am familiar with but being a sucker for free jazz and noise I really wanted to give this a spin. What you get is a very focused and extremley brutal sax and drum assault that is simply relentless and very unforgiving, its not Peter brotzmann's machine gun which I have no doubt was an influence but it packs a real punch, infact in most ways its more extreme with the sax finding a far more uncomfortable place in the sound spectrum which took me by surprise first listen and had me diving for the volume! The first track in needles greets you with ear busting sax brutality that is so high pitched I thought it was guitar feedback at first listen, this really sets the tone for the album but I think the B side is were things get really good, prepare to be slapped by a twenty minute or so asault on the senses that makes alot of free jazz or straight up noise seem like easy listening, if you had huge speakers you could probably use it as some kind of jazz weapon to scare the shit out of your neighbours. All in all a fantastic album, at times I wanted to hear some other instruments in the mix but I love the pin sharp focus and you have to hand it to these guys for being able to make this much glorious noise with such a basic setup.
