Rare Aussie indie rock, got yer rare Aussie indie rock! Please form an orderly queue. Brisbane’s Loomer have since gone on to join the likes of Slug Guts, Lakes and Per Purpose, and this record originally came out in 2010 on a limited CD. Now it’s on LP but there are only 100 of them.
It’s a dark and cacophonous album full of buzzsaw distorto-drones and pounding beats and paranoid female vocals. It combines the epic distorted wall-of-noise pop of shoegaze with a darker, dirtier and more experimental side with clanging, pounding efficiency. ‘Saving Daylight’ clanks and growls along in a Shellac-meets-Dead C-esque dirge before suddenly bursting into galloping widescreen fuzzpop.
Elsewhere there’s chiming Morricone surf wibble and grinding Swans-esque doom-dirge noisebaths, but it’s all put together thoughtfully and the softness of the vocals gives even the grittiest parts an aching humanity which is well suited to its clattering, clanking grandeur. An overlooked noisegaze gem, get one while it’s available.
