Chris Douglas makes a welcome return to his Dalglish handle with the first new material under the alias since 2011’s ‘Benacah Drann Deachd’ also on the Fluorescent Grey curated Record Label Records imprint. This 5 track 12” EP follows limited edition full length releases from Douglas appearing as Scald Rougish on ICASEA and Seaes on Cataclyst.

Just reading the words Dalglish and vinyl in the same sentence is enough to make hardcore electronic music fans salivate - your humble scribe no exception. This release has been on the cards for some time, finally the wait is over and it arrived just in time to squeeze into this weeks single of the week spot although arguably it could be classified as a mini-album. My admiration for Chris’s work is well documented on these pages so I’ll try not to repeat myself too much.

I’ve had to quickly write this after just a single listen but the initial impact of the record is quite overwhelming. This sounds like nothing else out there, completely in a league of its own. Currently cranking out of and pushing my speakers to their absolute limits, 'Venoyn' paints dark visions of the future with all the fractured complex machine rhythms and cavernous sound design that Chris has made his own. All you need is this 12” and a pair of ears and you will be transported somewhere else, guaranteed. I can’t even begin to attempt to decipher this audio, you just need to sit back and let it take over you. Mind blowing stuff as ever from this true visionary artist.

Great sleeve art too which reflects the strange geometries and complexity of the audio.

Another great release from the head-mangler. Completely alien in nature but totally captivating. So dense that repeated listens are a necessity. Each track feels totally inhuman yet organic. As per usual, it's a masterclass in sound design, noise manipulation and non-obvious progression. If you're new to him, I think the fact Autechre are fans should give you an idea of this guy's talent. Might be a hard listen to newcomers but once it clicks, it's incredible. I just wish I was as good with words as Chris Douglas is with sounds. Highly recommended.

Extremely skilful production and very esoteric. Reminded me of Autechre with the step beat programming, like Gantz Graf. Anyone interested in that kind of stuff should give it a listen. Outstanding!
