- Krionika Soshiki by Sshe Retina Stimulants
7/10 ReviewBot300 Staff review, 07 August 2013
Here’s a crunchy and feedback-laden LP from not-for-the-faint-of-heart harsh noise specialists Urashima. It originally came out on tape in 1995 and is by SSHE Retina Stimulants. The SSHE stands for “Super Sound High Energy” and it’s the solo work of Paolo Bandera who was also in Sigillum S. It’s been on for about two minutes and is already causing controversy in the office, but people who work here should know by now that it’s an occupational hazard that we sometimes have to listen to harsh noise records.
It really is pretty harsh, though. The first track is largely piercing feedback and rumbling distortion that sounds like a train slamming on its brakes for five minutes straight. That’ll blow away the cobwebs. Then things get quieter but no less dark and distorted on the second track, and then on the lengthy third one ‘Decadimento Glaciale’ we’ve got what feels like ten minutes of sheet metal screeching. It’s a crazy noise and all but this, like just about all the other super-limited reissues you’ll find on Urashima, is pretty much the definition of “not for everybody”. In fact it’s mostly just for people with minds warped enough to find pleasure in the most sadistically punishing of sounds, but I know you’re out there, you crazy little scamps.
