Finally another EP drops on Hospital Productions techno sub-label Bed Of Nails. Following superb 12"s from Christian Cosmos, Bronze Age and Vatican Shadow, Violet Poison hits us with the fourth release on Dominick Fernow's other label. Violet Poison is one half of the Violetshaped duo along with Shaped Noise with whom he also runs the Violet Poison record label.

'Awakening Messiah' fits in seamlessly with the Bed Of Nails Aesthetic of dark submerged, gritty techno with elegiac atmospherics. Opening with the gorgeous 'Aenigma Messiah' with throbbing, shuddering drum machine rhythm, droning baseline and gloomy soundscapes there's real beauty to be found in within the darkness.

'Babylon Suicide' is proper dead zone territory with slow steely industrial clanking and bleak synth work that really transforms the dynamic of a room when cranked up to high volume. Throughout their is an air of menace conjuring imagery of desolate post apocalyptic/ future landscapes with Terminators crushing skulls and shit.

On the B-Side 'Osiris Antichrist' is a cracking subs-driven techno throbber coming like a less explicitly dancefloor friendly Milton Bradley or Giorgio Gigli. I reckon you could get the right bodies shaking to this filth though as this would gobble up my mind if I heard this over a Funktion One soundsystem at 4am. Swirling melodies emerge from the blackness, almost sounding like the chiming of church bells adding an almost devotional aspect to the groove. But hey after all techno is a ritual.

'Vira Serpens Secrets' has a scraping metallic rhythmic. The flesh on this titanium skeleton comes in the form of a high pitched gently modulating drone and subtle doomy bassline. The rhythms appear to get increasingly crunchy, as they shred and tear away at an almost military marching pace.

If you've been following Vatican Shadow and not checked out Violet Poison or indeed Violetshaped then you really ought to be thinking about remedying that, as these guys are cut from the same black cloth. Highly recommended.
