My brother’s best childhood joke. “I’m not too keen on Fatima Whitbread, I prefer jam Whitbread” (wit’ bread). Boom and indeed boom. A joke Adrian Juste, “wacky” former Radio 1 daytime DJ would have been proud of. I wonder what he is doing now? Lets look. “Juste now provides the voice over for online bingo site Tombola” (source: Wikipedia). True. Meanwhile, while I’ve been waffling, this Fatima has been playing away in my ears her slinky r'n'b concoctions.
With cool, understated beats, her voice has a nice sultry quality. It breaks into a sweet chorus, a hauntingly lovely slow jam. She’s hooked up here with LA heavy hitters Computer Jay and Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra/Erykah Badu) and the record smacks of quality. Production at times reminding me of Onra and even a bit of the Dilla lollop. The B side has shades of the Sade/Erykah Badu '80s wine bar jazz thing that I love so much. So much so in fact that I’m now wearing a bow tie. Nice.
