So....Andy Kaufman: subversive comic genius or unfunny, self-obsessed, sexist buffoon? Probably a lot of both.

The latter certainly outweighs the former throughout his career but a lot of it is worthwhile for the shards of brilliance of which he was capable. This CD is collected from 82 hours of material recorded on micro cassette. If these are the best bits, God knows what the rest of it was like. We get Andy arguing with his grandmother who keeps offering him something to eat, Andy wittering on endlessly to his sister (I think) about her sex life, a bizzare live skit where he sings a tremendously hopeless song, perfectly exemplifying how he brings out the funny in the utterly unfunny.

Elsewhere there are lengthy diatribes, conversations about himself that kind of go nowhere at all. An utterly insane series of telephone calls with an animal and a frankly terrifying skit which purports to be a drive with his grandmother where his driving becomes increasingly madcap. Who knows what is real life, what is a put on and what is a sketch?

It's a murky, endlessly difficult listen and your enjoyment will depend on the level of humour you can glean from the sprawling self-indulgence.
