8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 2nd November 2014

This is Alela Diane’s break-up album. It is starker than her previous album, “Alela Diane & The Wild Devine”, due to the lessened use of the backing band, in which her ex-husband has been replaced as the bassist. On the title track her voice conveys the emotion extremely well, you feel for her. “The Way We Fall” is the best track. “Nothing I Can Do”, “Before The Leaving” and “I Thought I Knew” are all short, personal, cathartic songs that tell the tale of a failing relationship. I’ve got to admit that I found this a bit bland at first but after finding out about the deep, personal nature of the songs, it really did pull me in.
