7/10 Clinton Staff review, 12 July 2013

Ok bear with me on this because it takes a bit of suspension of belief.

Imagine if Editors' latest album had been a glorious comeback, where they’d stripped their sound, adding some much-needed mysterious qualities, taken elements of shoegaze, and generally written a nice, understated, hummable tune or two? Then it may sound a little like this Lancastrian lot whose second single bristles with a static-y energy.

It takes influences from all the obvious places - Joy Division, Ride - but is nicely done, and the shadowy vocal sample which introduces each bar of music is a nice touch.  On the B side they introduce beats and really, really loud guitars while the vocalist hollers low like the bastard son of Andrew Eldritch and Wayne Hussey. It's much more of an experimental work than the quite melodic A side but yin and indeed yang, as they say.
