Here’s some crisp cosmic electronica from The Red Falcon Projects, the duo of Warren Kroll (Dorosoto, Forrest) and Steve Lutes (Mall Security, Kontyx), who have teamed up to make some busy, danceable acid house with lots of kosmische synth drift alongside its crisp beats and 303-ish basslines, a party-friendly mix of restless melodicism, stoned synth drones and shimmering arpeggios.
The beatwork is quite straightforward, clear and propulsive in a way that reminds me of something between early Warp stuff like Plaid and a more computerised take on Ceephax’s synth wizardry, but these guys are pretty cheeky, adorning their record cover with a hairy chest and some bling, with ‘80s novelty wigs perched atop their synths on the back, so you can be assured that this is all delivered with tongue firmly in cheek and fun at the top of the agenda. I have to admit that I’m finding this mix of ‘80s kosmische and ‘90s euphoria to be a bit hit and miss and sometimes a little hammy, but it’s constantly danceable and melodic and I’m pretty sure that’s what they’re going for, so who am I to criticise?
