Old-fashioned hard rockers Milk Music have been raising eyebrows with their latest ‘Cruise Your Illusion’ opus lately, so it’s nice to see their ‘Beyond Living’ mini-LP getting a repress off the back of it. There’s six songs on this 45rpm platter, and they start on their best foot with ‘Fertile Ground’ with a thick and fuzzy guitar tone which makes it sound like they have a bassist when in fact it’s just guitar, drums and vocals (or is it? Bass is listed as “n/a” on the personnel list on the back cover anyway!).

It’s like some unholy communion between Nirvana and Wet Nuns, but more uplifting - the fuzzed out hi-gain guitar lines are so aggressively melodic it’s almost impossible not to nod along. They’ve taken the most fun parts from original grungers like the aforementioned Nirvana, TAD and Mudhoney, and stoner rockers like Fu Manchu and Nebula, and melted them down into something concise, loud and instantly infectious! When I heard ‘Cruise Your Illusion’ I struggled a little to figure out what the fuss was about, but upon hearing ‘Beyond Living’ it instantly makes sense. These guys rule!
