This new Straight Arrows album is really hitting the spot today. This quartet specialise in that reverb-drenched ‘60s garage pop sound, only with more reverb. It smothers everything like a warm fluffy blanket, filing down the sharp edges of their hi-gain guitar and hollerin’ vocals to something blurry and distant and thoroughly palatable, giving them license to be crunchy and snotty without losing those summer pop good vibes.
Opener ‘Bad Temper’ sets the scene for what is to come with a neanderthal vocal chant and a melodic hook to die for delivered in raucous style which brings to mind bands like Eddy Current Suppression Ring or The Marked Men, but armed with the shameless ‘60sisms of bands like People’s Temple or Ty Segall or even Deerhunter when they take things down a notch and a healthy touch of Antipodean shamble. Buy this, it’s good!
