Those fantastic psych explorers Carlton Melton have a new album this week on Blackest Rainbow and we’ve been lucky enough to snag some of the extra-limited coloured copies too, which is a bonus. On this LP they’re playing four lengthy groove-rock numbers which churn smokily along with lazy, rumbling grooves, shimmering synth drones and outer-space guitar noodling.

If you already think you know what to expect from Carlton Melton, I doubt they’ll be throwing any surprises at you here. These lads settle into a slow, heavy groove and then repeat it until you get sucked into “the zone” and your head turns into mush as you stand nodding, slack-jawed, floating outside of time. They’re real good at it too, you won’t find a better slow-burning cosmic rock band this side of Sylvester Anfang II. You’ll either emphatically like this or get a bit bored, depending on how many bongs you’ve smoked today. I for one think it’s time to toke up and drift away.
