Nothing can be worse than the Exit Calm record I’ve just heard. It must be music to their ears having me dislike them so much, they are bound to be massive. Sunray sound like the future of music in comparison but another listen verifies that they are actually the past. The A side is all swirly '60s hazed out psychedelic pop with lots of stinging guitars and druggy vocals. So far so Brian Jonestown Massacre. The B side, however, is something completely different, a lovely acoustic lament, the kind Nick Drake specialised in, with a string arrangement Robert Kirby would have been proud of. Utterly lovely and completely unexpected, album coming soon on Enraptured.
