7/10 Larry N Customer review, 12th July 2013

I remember seeing Sonic Youth years ago and it was possibly the worst gig I've ever been to. Utter self-indulgent toss. The only highlight was my mate shouting "F**k she's got a trumpet now" when Kim Gordon emerged brandishing the offending item.

I only mention this as the press release mentions Sonic Youth in their "for fans of". This record sounds nothing like Sonic Youth in any of their guises, but some of the comparisons are right.

It starts off with Gas-like ambience, all warm layered synths. Second track could be something from Robin Guthrie's solo LPs with that reverbed guitars sound. There's some vocals on a few tracks making them sound like Slowdive's 5EP, especially when the beats kick in, and then there's a few nice Kosmiche workouts which could be from any of slew of synth lps from recent years.

Nothing particularly groundbreaking in here, but if you're a fan of the above, or the more ambient end of the shoegaze spectrum there's plenty here to entertain.

And there's no trumpets.
