- Glad Music by R Stevie Moore

I’ll try not to go on about ‘Glad Music’ for too long. It’s one of three reissues from R Stevie Moore’s back catalog out this week. Mike has already reviewed ‘Delicate Tension’ elsewhere and we also have ‘Clack!’ on 2LP!
The thing that’s bugging me about these reissues is: why they haven’t come earlier? I’ve bought the various compiled LPs recently doing the rounds and I’ve endured a couple of dodgy live gigs which basically involved me observing a cranky old man plod through the classics, when all I really wanted was a vinyl copy of ‘Delicate Tension’ and all he really wanted was for us to have been listening years ago so he can go home and retire.
Moore is surely too old for the rigours of the road and I’d be surprised if he has any energy left to write new music either. And why should he? The majority of his shit has been criminally ignored up until now anyway so why bother? ‘Glad Music’ was Moore’s first for real studio album released in 1986. It’s class which is why it’s been reissued. It features the outstanding ‘Why Should i Love You’ and it’s about a 70/30 split of good/bad material throughout...which is pretty consistent for an R Stevie Moore record.
