I’m sad to inform you that The Vivids’ new single ‘AK-47’ isn’t a cover of the brilliant Weird War song of the same name but in fact a slice of jangly indie pop with a weird post-punk coldness to it thanks to some spindly cymbal-light drum work. On the bright side, however, it is pretty good! Over on side B is ‘Heir To A Void’ which in a way sounds more like a single to me...restrained reverby guitar and high in the mix vocals are making me think of Echo & the Bunnymen and their trenchcoat-donning ilk, but with enough urgency to the delivery to save them from sounding too dour and anonymous.
