Here’s an EP of indie rock from Wild Smiles on G-Bar’s ever-great Invada where the trio knock out four tracks of heavily reverbed indie pop with a nifty noise rock crunch. The highlight is closer ‘You Don’t Care About Me’, with weird echoed vocals and splattery guitar distortion over a bold post-punk number which reminds me of The Intelligence, and there’s a great little organ breakdown at the end with a cheeky little descending hook designed to stick in your head even when the final chord has rung out and the record is over.

Which isn’t to say the rest of it’s bad. It’s got shades of that dreamy indie rock sound that Deerhunter and Crystal Stilts are so good at, but approached from a more shoegazey and recognisably British angle...I can definitely hear a bit of Jesus and Mary Chain in here, and Ride and Slowdive. It’s all good. I liked that 7” they did too. Very promising band.
