Fifteen Quiet Years by Rodan

Rodan were one of those bands who most indie rock fans wish had brought out more records. Their solitary album, ‘Rusty’, is still spoken about in hushed tones by be-cardiganned types everywhere, and of course some of their members went on to form such bands as June of 44, Rachel’s and Shipping News, which is some pretty serious pedigree.

Here, finally, Quarterstick have compiled a load of their hard to find stuff onto album number two, with their ‘94 Peel session, an out of print 7” and compilation tracks, plus a download for an entire album’s worth of live recordings for good measure. As you would expect, they’re really good but not as good as ‘Rusty’. Still, it’s more of their scratchy, patient, Slint-esque guitars and buried Month of Birthdaysy vocals that you like so much, all with good old ‘90s-style dynamics that you don’t hear so much any more. If you’re a fan from the old days, this will be a right old treat. If you’re not, check out ‘Rusty’ first before you get stuck into this one, but if you like one you’ll probably like the other.
