They’ve made the sleeve look like those ‘Music For Pleasure’ records from the ‘60s. You know, Mrs Mills, that lot. No-one could get away with looking like she did these days, she’d be dieted and scrubbed and plucked and airbrushed. So anyway this is a very limited vinyl edition of tracks taken from The Soundcarriers’ forthcoming album not out until autumn, but here presented in analogue remix form. So in a nutshell, it’s a reworked album which has come out before the actual album.

These tracks have been presented in instrumental form with stripped down arrangements. The music is the style of ‘60s inflected psychedelic, tie-dyed soundtrack stuff, mixing lounge jazz with authentic instrumental psych utilising powerful live drums, melodic funky bass, distorted organs galore. ‘Somewhere To Land’ bursts out of the pack with a melody replicating ‘Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye’. Warning: also contains flutes.

It’s all rather like ending up in a lava lamp-lit underground club, people smoking peace pipes, you glance in the mirror and you are wearing a kaftan. It’s all a lot less Broadcast and United States of America than their ‘normal’ records and more ‘60s library psych-funk-jam if you know what I mean. According to the press release it will sell out IMMEDIATELY. I assume Paul Weller already has his copy on pre-order.
