Jeepers! The song in the video section above is INTENSE! The only instrumentation is screechy cello and violin and a really terrifying vocal, really proper scary and slowly getting more threatening as it builds without ever properly building, it's just the pure tension and horror which drags you into it. Really creepy and thrilling and odd and proper interesting stuff.
That's the warm welcome you get into this lp from the mysterious Skogsberg whose picture on record label Subliminal Sounds' website is equally scary. The next track is a pounding drum with some crazily distorted guitar roaming over them. There is some faint wailing buried deep in the sound which I had to check was coming from the track by pausing the music, just to be sure that I was alone in my room and not about to be dragged to hell, with this as the perfect soundtrack. Then it just goes. There is nothing extra, no crescendo, no key change, the sound just leaves and its weight is lifted from your shoulders as you can begin to look from behind the sofa. "Besvarjelse Rota" makes me think of Franz Kafka's 'Metamorphosis' as Gregor transforms into the huge, black beetle. There is a clicking and bubbling which really makes me think of a horde of creepy crawlies scuttling all over the floor.
This album is just one scary cookie.
Don't listen with the lights off.
