9/10 Penrith Steve 31st October 2014

This is a classic, the Bostonians' debut album and their best. “Eleven:Eleven” was released in 1992 at the height of grunge and mixes contemporary influences with dark, rockin’ blues. “Submerge” is a brilliant opener, rolling along, gathering pace very gradually until it reaches the chorus at Thalia Zedek spits out “Just relax, just realx, just relax” it’s the opposite of what this song makes you want to do. There isn’t a bad track on here. The single “Fast Piss Blues” is immense, it’s refrain of “I don’t remember being born, I’m not from where my mother’s from” and slow bending riff are fantastic. There is also a decent cover version of the Stones’ “I Got The Blues” at the end.

Listening to it now, it reminds me a little of Shellac, but not as precise, fuzzy at the edges and vocals are higher in the mix. Absolutely brilliant, probably considered to be one of those “lost classics” these days. I think of it as a “must have”.
