10/10 David Bradshaw Customer review, 12th February 2015
After listening to Future Islands' second release In Evening Air, and some lurking about their old Thrill Jockey label, I came across Peals.
Walking Field feels as much like a single soundscape than as a record of songs arranged one after another. An audio landscape uninterrupted, or worse complicated by vocals, Walking Field is pure music and in the absence or void created by the lack of lyrics meaning or feeling emerge. The atmosphere is quite cinematic, one of movement and continuity, a progression between different layers and sensory peaks, punctuated with familiar motifs that reappear throughout.
Rating a release out of ten usually seems an arbitrary manner of judging the merits of a record, but any alteration to these simple compositions could only have a negative impact on the ephemeral essence of this recording.
