We scored some 10” vinyl copies of this beauty of “special sounds” from Brian Hodgson and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. This really shows them at their most radical, groundbreaking and experimental. Beginning with the brief opening theme from 1967, this is really the only “musical” moment on the record before we’re plunged into cutting edge (at the time of course) sound effects, soundscapes, bleeps, drones and imagined sounds of the science fiction world. This one is for the hardcore avant electronics fans or the total Dr Who nerdy collector. I don’t expect this to hang around too long.
7/10 Stewart Customer review, 9th May 2014
As hinted at in the shop review, it's not really what one might think of as music as such rather a collection of electronic bloops and bleeps somewhere between the sort of album you use to get to test the range and dynamics of your speakers and the Aphex Twin at his most repetitive and mundane. I might remove the label and try to flog it to the watmm forum as Caustic Window 5. Anyway, that aside it's a interesting collection of Radiophonic Workshop output but having never actually seen the episodes in question I can't really comment on their suitability for the show.
