Records are coming out thick and fast, they are being thrown at me almost as quick as I can listen to them. My dad asked how we do it when we are reviewing in ‘real time’. It’s a good question and one that can only be answered by saying “not very well”. This is a new project by former Walls and Banjo or Freakout people. Even with my encyclopaedic knowledge of music (admittedly more in line to quoting Prefab Sprout B sides from ‘85) I can’t recall either band beyond remembering that they are Italian and probably guitary (am I right? You’re not wrong!) so I will review it on its own terms which is better for everyone.

It’s pulsey electronic music inspired by the very in-vogue kosmische/Tangerine Dream/Italian horror type sound. Mastered by Sonic Boom (although that’s only just akin to saying the synths were plugged in by Vangelis) the harder synth sound of the soundtracky stuff is interspersed with some soft synth layers, ‘Carrizo Plain’ has a lovely feel to it recalling the ‘Drive’ soundtrack which is carried on into the gorgeous ‘Nemrut Dagi’, a half-lit slab of shoegaze synth. It’s a veritable feast of late night, West Coast synth wash, some Moroder dancefloor element but seemingly only at the beginning and end of the record. Like a squidgy synth sandwich.
