When Howard Devoto left the Buzzcocks everyone said he was made but he subsequently formed Magazine who were one of the most revered and most admired post-punk bands. Real Life was their 1978 debut which included the now legendary Shot By Both Sides and The Light Pours Out of Me. First time on 180g vinyl for this classic.

"Real Life" is an original take on new wave and punk. It was the debut album by Magazine, recorded after vocalist Howard Devoto had left The Buzzcocks and released in 1978. The two most straight-forward rock songs on here, "Shot By Both Sides" and "The Light Pours Out Of Me" are also two of the best and were co-written by Devoto and The Buzzcocks' Pete Shelley. In the main, the album sound is somewhere between David Bowie's "Low" and Television's "Adveneture" to my ears, with songs like "Burst" being reminiscent of Brian Eno's more songy work.
