- Real Life by Magazine
8/10 Penrith Steve 19th February 2015
"Real Life" is an original take on new wave and punk. It was the debut album by Magazine, recorded after vocalist Howard Devoto had left The Buzzcocks and released in 1978. The two most straight-forward rock songs on here, "Shot By Both Sides" and "The Light Pours Out Of Me" are also two of the best and were co-written by Devoto and The Buzzcocks' Pete Shelley. In the main, the album sound is somewhere between David Bowie's "Low" and Television's "Adveneture" to my ears, with songs like "Burst" being reminiscent of Brian Eno's more songy work.
