9/10 Mike Staff review, 19 April 2013

We got a single by Ty Segall’s new trio Fuzz a week or two back which I assumed was their debut, but it turns out I was mistaken and this one on Trouble In Mind which only just reached us from the States was in fact the first one out, chronologically speaking. How confusing!

Anyway, the A side here is a slow and heavy and fuzzy (no shit) little ditty with snottily distorted vocals from Segall...it’s dirty and heavy so if I’m going to compare it to any of his other work the Ty Segall Band ‘Slaughterhouse’ album is closest, or a slower, dirtier take on some of his ‘Twins’ material maybe. On the other side is ‘Fuzz’s Fourth Dream’, where the vocals take a back seat to ‘70s style hard rock riffing with a smooth lead guitar tone over all the buzzing distortion that recalls bands like Cream and Mountain. Great single!
