8/10 Clinton Staff review, 06 September 2013

This is finger-pickin’ good (you can have that one for free). This is an album of beautiful guitar evocations that most closely recall the very talented Michael Chapman. The compositions rattle along at the pace of a steam train, yet have an innate sense of beauty.

‘Albion Source’ is the most gorgeous thing, I don’t know what guitar Johnson is using but the chords are lovely and thick and chunky. You’ll like it if you like a bit of John Fahey but really it’s Chapman’s guitar instrumentals that constantly spring to mind. If like me you have worn out your copy of ‘Trainsong’ then you really need to consider getting this. Consistent throughout, it’s music for looking out of the window to, particularly if you live on a semi-rural hill in the middle of darkest Lancashire. Gorgeous.
